Renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc is the ideal way to explore this pearl island with its turquoise beaches and stunning natural scenery. For flexible transportation, you can rent a motorbike to visit Bai Sao Beach, Bai Truong Beach, Dinh Cau Temple, or Phu Quoc night market. Let's start your most memorable and free-spirited Phu Quoc exploration journey with Vexere!

Some things to keep in mind when renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc.

1. Check the weather forecast in Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc boasts a distinctive climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season from October to April and the rainy season from May to November. The dry season is considered the perfect time to explore the island by motorbike, as the weather is sunny, with little rain and an average temperature of around 27°C. The sea is calm at this time, ideal for outdoor activities such as sightseeing, swimming, or trekking in the forest. Before renting a motorbike, be sure to check the weather forecast carefully to ensure your journey is not interrupted by sudden rain showers.

If you're a food lover, the rainy season has a special appeal. Although the weather may be unfavorable with heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas, this is the season when seafood is freshest and cheapest. However, avoid days with heavy rain or storms to ensure safety while traveling, and prepare raincoats and other necessary items. Checking the weather before each trip will help you plan your trip and rent a motorbike more effectively.

2. Choose the type of vehicle that suits your needs.

In Phu Quoc, most tourists prefer renting scooters because the roads on the island are mostly flat and easy to navigate. Scooters are not only easy to drive but also offer comfort and convenience, especially when traveling within the town center or visiting nearby tourist attractions.

However, if you plan on exploring longer routes or want to conquer areas with rugged, mountainous terrain like the North Island, a manual transmission motorcycle will be a cost-effective and worthwhile option for a long journey.

Consider your route and needs to choose the right type of vehicle, ensuring the safest and most comfortable trip possible.

3. Book your motorbike rental in advance.

As one of Vietnam's most popular tourist destinations, Phu Quoc always attracts a large number of visitors, especially during peak season from late October to early March. Without booking a vehicle in advance, you may have difficulty finding a suitable car or even find that there are no cars available for rent.

Booking your rental car in advance not only ensures you have a vehicle ready for your trip but also gives you the chance to get a better price. To be more proactive, contact the rental company at least 1-2 days before your trip. You can also request delivery to the airport, train station, or your accommodation to save time and start your exploration journey as conveniently as possible.

4. Discuss the information thoroughly and read the car rental contract carefully.

When renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc, be sure to clearly discuss important information such as the rental price, rental duration, and any additional charges (if applicable). This will help you avoid any unexpected problems or costs during your rental. If you want the motorbike delivered to your location, provide a detailed address to ensure a smooth delivery and pickup process.

If the rental company requires a rental contract, carefully read the terms before signing. Pay attention to details such as liability in case of an accident, compensation rates, and refund policies to avoid unnecessary disputes. Understanding the contract thoroughly not only protects your rights but also makes the rental process smoother.

5. Bring your personal identification documents.

Most motorbike rental shops in Phu Quoc require customers to provide personal identification documents such as a Citizen Identity Card (CCCD) or Passport along with a valid driver's license. Make sure you bring the necessary documents to ensure a quick rental process.

6. Inspect the vehicle thoroughly upon receiving it.

Before accepting the vehicle, check components such as the brakes, lights, horn, and tire condition. If you find any faults, report them immediately to the owner for repair or a replacement vehicle. Don't forget to take photos or videos of the vehicle from multiple angles to avoid disputes after returning it.

Additionally, most rental companies provide enough fuel to get you to the nearest gas station. However, if the fuel level is too low, you should ask the rental company to refuel or switch to a different vehicle to avoid inconvenience. This is especially important if you plan to travel a long distance immediately after receiving the vehicle.

7. Save the contact information of the motorbike rental shop.

Always keep the phone number and address of the car rental company handy so you can contact them immediately if you need assistance, especially if your car breaks down on the road.

Contact information for the transportation company is usually printed on the helmet, the vehicle, the contract, or the rental receipt. You should check these sources of information and note them down on your phone to ensure they are readily available when needed. Saving this information will give you greater peace of mind throughout your journey exploring Phu Quoc Island.

Where is the best place to rent a motorbike in Phu Quoc?

When renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc, you can choose to rent from your hotel, homestay, or specialized rental shops. Below are some suggestions for motorbike rental locations in Phu Quoc, along with their advantages and disadvantages, to help you make a decision that suits your needs.

Hotels and homestays that rent motorbikes.

Advantage :

  • Convenience : Renting a car directly at your accommodation saves you time and effort. You can easily pick up a car right at your hotel or homestay without having to travel far.

Disadvantages:

  • Limited vehicle availability : Hotels and homestays don't always have many vehicles available for rent, especially during peak season. You might encounter situations where all vehicles are unavailable or only low-quality vehicles are available that don't meet your needs.
  • Limited support : Support services at hotels and homestays may not be as professional as those offered by specialized car rental shops. If your vehicle breaks down, you may have difficulty getting timely assistance.
  • Difficulty with vehicle pickup and delivery : Hotels usually prioritize guests picking up and returning vehicles directly at their property. Due to limited staff, these establishments may not be able to provide service if you need to pick up or return a vehicle at a bus station or airport.

If you plan to rent a motorbike directly from your hotel or homestay, you should ask about their rental policy to avoid any inconvenience when picking up or returning the vehicle.

  • Regular vehicle maintenance : Many car rental companies, in addition to providing rental services, also have workshops for regular vehicle maintenance and repair. This helps ensure you always receive a vehicle in the best possible condition.

Disadvantages:

  • Finding a reputable shop is difficult : Phu Quoc has many motorbike rental shops, but not all of them are reputable. You will need time to search for and verify reliable shops, especially during peak tourist season, particularly during peak tourist periods in Phu Quoc.

How much does it cost to rent a motorbike in Phu Quoc?

Motorbike rental prices in Phu Quoc range from 120,000 to 200,000 VND per day for standard models. However, during peak season or holidays, rental prices can increase by 20% to 50%, ranging from 150,000 to 350,000 VND per day. Therefore, if you are traveling during peak season (October to April), be prepared for higher rental prices than usual.

Typically, a motorbike rental is calculated as 24 hours from the time of pickup. This offers flexibility in planning your sightseeing and travel. However, if you return the motorbike later than the agreed time, you may be charged an additional half-day rental fee or a surcharge as per the rental shop's regulations.

To avoid unnecessary costs, you should carefully review the information in each rental package and return time, which will help you calculate the most optimal rental cost.

Standard manual transmission cars

One of the most popular options is a standard 110cc scooter like the Honda Wave Alpha, Honda Blade, Honda Wave RSX, Yamaha Sirius, etc. With rental prices ranging from 120,000 to 150,000 VND per day, scooters are suitable for tourists who only need to travel within the city center or between nearby attractions.

This type of vehicle is cost-effective, easy to drive, and especially suitable for short trips that don't require much power or speed. Furthermore, manual transmission vehicles are very fuel-efficient, allowing you to explore the famous tourist destinations of Phu Quoc Island without worrying about the cost.

Popular scooters

Popular scooters, including models like the Honda Airblade, Honda Vision, Yamaha Nouvo, and Honda Lead, are a favorite choice for many tourists in Phu Quoc. With rental prices ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 VND per day, these scooters are easy to ride and especially convenient for those unfamiliar with manual transmission motorcycles.

These scooters are generally well-maintained, run smoothly and reliably, making them ideal for navigating city centers or the flat roads of the island. Scooters also boast attractive designs and numerous features, enhancing the comfort of your ride.

If you need a more powerful vehicle, a 150cc scooter like the Honda PCX or Yamaha NVX would be the perfect choice. With rental prices ranging from 200,000 to 250,000 VND per day, although the price is higher, you'll get a powerful, high-speed vehicle that can easily navigate the island's steep roads.

However, because the vehicle is quite heavy and requires some driving experience, if you are not familiar with it, think carefully before choosing to rent this type of vehicle.

What documents are needed to rent a motorbike in Phu Quoc?

When renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc, you will need to prepare some documents depending on the purpose of the rental. However, there are two main types of documents that most rental companies require you to prepare: a valid Citizen Identity Card or Passport and a valid Driver's License.

1. National ID card or Passport

This is an important document that helps verify your identity and personal information. Most car rental establishments in Phu Quoc require you to provide your Citizen Identification Card (CCCD) to complete the rental procedure. If you do not have your CCCD with you, you can use your passport as an alternative.

In particular, some rental companies are now more flexible by accepting photos of their Citizen Identification Card (CCCD) via the VNeID app, saving you time and making transactions easier. However, you should note that some establishments may require you to keep or photograph this document for security purposes during the rental process.

2. Driving license (Driver's license)

A driver's license is a mandatory requirement when renting a motorbike in Phu Quoc. Specifically, you need a valid motorbike license that matches the type of motorbike you wish to rent. Rental companies will carefully check your license to ensure you are qualified to drive safely.

If you don't have a driver's license, you can still rent vehicles with an engine capacity under 50cc or electric motorbikes. However, to rent larger vehicles, you need an A1 driver's license, which is the basic requirement for operating a motorbike in Vietnam.

Additionally, some motorbike rental shops may require a deposit as part of the rental agreement. This deposit will be refunded when you return the motorbike on time and without damage.

Rent a motorbike at Phu Quoc Ferry Terminal.

If you choose to travel to Phu Quoc Island by speedboat from Rach Gia (2 hours 30 minutes) or Ha Tien (1 hour 30 minutes), Bai Vong Port is your first stop. Instead of queuing for buses or paying expensive taxi fares to get to the town center, renting a motorbike at the port is the best and most affordable option.

• Motorbike delivery as soon as the ship docks: As soon as you step off the pier, you'll see motorbike rental staff waiting (usually at the pier's exit gate). If you book in advance, your motorbike will be ready for you to hit the gas and ride immediately.

• Transparent vehicle delivery costs: Depending on the company, vehicle delivery at the port may be free or subject to a very small support fee (only 20,000 VND – 30,000 VND/vehicle). This is extremely cheap compared to the hundreds of thousands of VND you would have to spend on other means of transportation.

• Find the nearest gas station to Bai Vong Port: After picking up your vehicle from the ferry terminal, remember to stop at a gas station to fill up your tank before heading to Duong Dong or the South Island. The nearest gas station is located right on the main road DT48 (the road to Bai Vong Port), about 1.5km – 2km from the ferry terminal. Just drive straight out of the port and you'll see it.

• A small note: On days with rough seas or bad weather, ferry schedules may be delayed. Please stay in contact with the transportation company so they can proactively adjust the vehicle delivery time accordingly, avoiding long waits.

Rent a motorbike at Phu Quoc Airport

Phu Quoc Airport (Duong To commune) is a stopover point for dozens of flights every day from major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, etc. Instead of spending 200,000-300,000 VND on a taxi to the city center, renting a motorbike right at the airport is the most economical and convenient solution.

• Pick up your motorbike right at the lobby: For maximum convenience, we offer free motorbike delivery to the airport lobby (usually near Column 4 – Domestic Terminal). Immediately after collecting your luggage, you only need 5 minutes to complete the motorbike handover procedure on the spot and can begin your exploration of Phu Quoc Island without waiting.

• Note regarding the nearest gas station to the airport: Most motorbikes picked up at the airport will have a small amount of fuel. For a safe journey to your hotel (about 15 minutes from Duong Dong town center), your first stop should be a Petrolimex gas station. This gas station is located right on the main road from the airport to the town center, only about 2.5km from the airport gate (about a 5-minute drive).

Motorbike rental in Duong Dong Town area

Known as the "heart" of Phu Quoc Island, Duong Dong town is the most bustling area with hotels, resorts, restaurants, and famous attractions such as Phu Quoc Night Market, Dinh Cau Temple, and Truong Beach. It's the ideal location to rent a motorbike because from here, you can easily explore both the North of the island (VinWonders, Grand World) and the South (Sao Beach, Hon Thom Island).

• Free delivery to your hotel lobby: No need to travel far, simply book in advance and the rental company will deliver the vehicle free of charge to your hotel, homestay, or any designated meeting point in the center of Duong Dong. You can relax, check in, and then pick up your vehicle right in the lobby to begin your journey.

• Dense and convenient gas station network: Unlike the airport or ferry terminal area, Duong Dong town has many large gas stations located on major roads such as 30/4 Street, Hung Vuong Street, and Tran Hung Dao Street. You can easily find a place to refuel your vehicle within a few minutes of travel, ensuring your journey is never interrupted.

Rent a motorbike near Ham Ninh Fishing Village.

Located on the eastern side of the island, Ham Ninh fishing village is not only famous for its fresh seafood but also an ideal starting point for visiting Tranh Stream, Ho Quoc Pagoda, or pearl farming facilities. Motorbike rental services here allow you to explore the pristine coastal roads at your own pace without relying on taxis.

• Vehicle delivery to your restaurant/homestay: Although the Ham Ninh area doesn't have as many shops as the city center, it still meets the needs of customers. You can leisurely enjoy Ham Ninh crab, then pick up your vehicle and continue your journey immediately.

• Note regarding gas stations in Ham Ninh: • Because this area is less densely populated than Duong Dong town center, proactively refueling is very important. Large gas stations (such as KTC An Loc or Tuong Vy) are concentrated right at the intersection in Ham Ninh commune. This is the last stop to fill up your tank before starting your journey along the coastal road DT 48 towards the North of the island (towards Bai Thom) or moving south, as there are very few official gas stations along these routes.

Motorbike rental in An Thoi area

An Thoi is the "capital" of southern Phu Quoc, a stopover for those who want to experience the Hon Thom Cable Car, go snorkeling in the An Thoi archipelago, or visit the Phu Quoc Prison historical site. Renting a motorbike in An Thoi will save you a lot of money compared to traveling by electric vehicle or taxi between attractions.

• Pick up your motorbike at An Thoi Station or Bai Dat Do Port: This is a big plus for tourists. You can request delivery right at the cable car station or the lobby of major resorts in the South Island. As soon as your island tour ends, a motorbike will be waiting for you to continue your adventure without any waiting time.

• Gas station system in An Thoi: As the second largest town on the island, An Thoi has quite a few large gas stations, mainly concentrated on Nguyen Van Cu Street (the main road connecting the north and south of the island). You can easily find a Petrolimex gas station right in the town center for peace of mind when traveling.

• Diverse range of modern vehicles: In An Thoi, there is a large number of high-end tourists, so establishments always have a variety of modern, smooth-running scooters available, helping you conquer the gentle slopes of the South Island with ease.
